Panther (MacIntosh) Email Setup
1. To begin setting up your mail accounts using the OSX Panther
email application, click once on the Mail icon on the Dock.
2. This article covers first time set-up on the computer. Click
No on the Import Mailbox button.
3. If you are prompted to enter any passwords, click the Cancel
button.
4. The mail interface appears.
5. From he menu bar at the top of the screen, select Mail
and click on Preferences.
6. Since we are only covering first time set-up, there should
be nothing under the Accounts heading. If other accounts
do appear that do not belong to you or are no longer active, they
can be removed by clicking the minus (-) button in the
bottom left corner.
7. To begin setting up your email account, click the plus (+) button in the bottom left corner.
8. Under Account Type, select "POP".
9. Under Description, enter "Earth Star".
10. Enter your email address in the Email Address field.
11. Enter your name in the Full Name field.
12. Enter "mail.yourdomain.com" beside the Incoming Mail Server field, where yourdomain is your real domain name.
13. Enter your email address without the "@yourdomain.com" portion in the User Name field. For example, if your email address is "you@yourdomain.com", you would only enter "you".
14. Enter your mailbox password in the Password field.
15. Select "smtp" in the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) field.
16. If you are not running a home network, continue by clicking on the Server Settings button.
17. When the SMTP Server Options window appears, enter
"mail.yourdomain.com" beside Outgoing Mail Server, where
yourdomain is your real domain name.
18. The default server port is 25 and should not be changed.
19. Do not check Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
20. Select "Password" in the Authentication field.
21. Enter the same User Name that was used in step 13.
22. Enter the same Password that was used in step 14.
23. Click the OK button.
24. Select Advanced from the three tabs at the top of the
window
25. Ensure that Remove copy from server after retrieving a message is checked and that Right away is selected.
26. Click the red button at the top left of the screen.
27. Click Save
28. You are now ready To use the mail application. You can select
Get Mail to retrieve the mail or New to create a
new email.
